The Holy Week-Ugolino art board is an emotion-filled piece covering Jesus’ last week of life on Earth.  It features all the major events from Palm Sunday through Holy Week to Good Friday’s Crucifixion.  This mosaic was my first commission that I was honored to create for a church congregation to accompany the moving choral work their choir prepared for Good Friday’s service.  The church was kind enough to allow me to offer prints of their original for sale to others.  Holy Week-Ugolino is appropriate to remain available for contemplation in a church throughout Lent to invite reflection upon the complexities of that critical time period in the Christian faith.

There isn’t a lot of church decoration put up for Lent since it is a time of sober reflection, not of celebration.  This artwork is less adornment and more of a spiritual invitation to serious study and contemplation.  It is equally suited within a home altar as it is in a church throughout the Lenten season.  Holy Week-Ugolino is an especially ideal prayer partner during Saturday Vigil.

This piece was named for the image of The Last Supper Medieval artist Ugolino portrayed, which is found in the center right of this art mosaic.  The artistic themes and events of the Holy Week-Ugolino mosaic artwork include:  Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem; The Last Supper; Jesus Washing His Disciples’ Feet; Agony in the Garden; Judas’ Betrayal; Jesus before Pilate; A Man of Sorrows; Carrying the Cross to Golgotha; Crucifixion; and Deposition from the Cross.
