The centralized dark painting of Christ’s body being removed from the Cross is a strong focus pointing to our faith in the Rembrandt art board. This is very emotional and realistic art. The largeness of the Nativity balances and is underscored by images of Mary visiting Elizabeth sharing in their miraculous pregnancies as well as the Annunciation of the Angel Gabriel to Mary.
Some interesting and well known Old Testament stories are portrayed: Ruth gleaning in the field of Boaz; Balaam and his donkey; Abraham and Isaac; and several images of Adam and Eve.
The desperately moving emotion of Jesus’ body being literally handed down from the Cross by Rembrandt is balanced importantly by the several images of Christ Reigning in Supremacy. In this board we see very clearly the Glory of the Lord—as well as His movement among human beings on this earth.
I feel the Rembrandt board connects the Old to the New Testaments effectively. The Christian faith is a series of juxtapositions of what would seem to have ended up happening, but what turned out differently and just as God intended. This board shows that well.
