The Christmas-Fra Angelico board conveys several different artistic styles within a small space, all expressing a different feeling and telling a different story about the same season

Creating a Christmas board is easy and challenging at the same time.  Since it is such a specific theme, the choices of artwork to include on the board are simplified.  However, the challenge comes in the balance of style, color, and emotion working within that one theme.

This board balances glory and majesty with humility and simplicity.  The need to remember the WHY of Christmas during the fun and festivities is important.  For this reason, I have included a few other subtle reminders in Christmas-Fra Angelico that underscore our NEED for this season.

I am hopeful to think that this piece of art will find its way into small hands, eyes, and ears as an Advent discussion tool for families of young children.  I have sized it to fit into a standard 11” x 14” frame as well as to fit within a 16” x 20” matted to 11” x 14” standard size frame.  It would be lovely on a tabletop easel or hung on the wall.

The Christmas-Fra Angelico board was named for the brightest and lightest image in the left center of the art piece.  There are many beautiful examples of artwork depicting the Annunciation when The Angel Gabriel announced to the Virgin that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and that she would bear God’s son.  My favorite examples of this artwork subject, however, always include in an upper corner the small illustration of Adam and Eve being sent from the garden, serving as a reminder to the viewer of the very reason God needed to send His Son to Earth.  One of the loveliest of these types of Annunciation artworks is this one by Fra Angelico.

Merry Christmas!
